Bookworms and Travelbugs

Weekend trips are the best! They give you a much needed break from routine and are not too disruptive. #novacationneededafteravacation.

• We started our Saturday with a visit to the scenic Snoqualmie Falls, located half an hour away from Seattle downtown. They have viewing platforms where you can take in the beauty of the majestic falls and click a ton of pictures.
• The Boeing factory! This place  was simply mind blowing! I have been fascinated with planes and have known all the different symbols for the longest time! The sheer magnitude of this factory and the assembly line was awe-inspiring!
• The Chihuly Glass Museum has beautiful glass structures. This was my first introduction to this unique art.  The glass blown formations are mind blowing. See what I did there. 😂 This was followed by coffee at The First Starbucks! The line at this place is insane! Just because it was the first Starbucks!
• Seattle has a ton of parks to enjoy the sunshine. And we visited quite a few that weekend, Bryant park,  Gas Works park to name a few. They are spread out in different parts of the city and have fantastic views of the skyline.
• The Skagit Tulip Festival is an absolute must-do and is almost an hour’s drive from the city of Seattle. The best time to visit is in April when the tulips are in full bloom.  It is a magnificent display of  rows and rows of rainbow colored tulips. There are over a million tulip bulbs in this location and this should take about an hour or two to visit.
• Next up is the Pikes Place Market! It claims to be one of the oldest farmer’s markets in the country. It is delightful to walk through the long alleyways and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the wares sold here. It also houses the famous fish market where the purchased fish is thrown around  before it is wrapped. The irony of flying fish saving a tanking fish market! What started out as a prank helped turn the business around. I found this really interesting and you can read more about this here. Pikes Place was so vivid and vibrant, an experience in itself. The famous bubble gum wall is also located right behind the market.
• Kerry Park is an excellent location to enjoy sweeping views of the Seattle Skyline.
• A not-to-miss pizza place in Seattle would be Serious Pie – we have fierce competition in the house between Serious Pie and Pizza Antica in the Bay Area! Do you have an opinion? Let us know in the comments!
• Later that evening we visited the Ballard Locks, followed by another huge meal of Mexican food at Señor Moose!
• A hole in the wall restaurant – Thai Tom serves incredibly delicious Thai food which we picked up and enjoyed near the waterfront.
• I would highly recommend the  Lunchbox Laboratory. Their collection of  milkshakes and burgers was to die for!
